| Xu Xiake¡¯s Travel Note was
written by Mr. Xu Xiake, Chinese famous traveler and geographer in
Ming Dynastic, which is the records for investigation under his travelling
on the spot of 19 provinces and cities of our country after he spent
over 30 years painstaking effort and stepped over 50,000 kilometers.
In the Note, Mr. Xu recorded what he surveyed every day through diary
and they were bequeathed. There are over 600,000 world in whole note.
Besides the strange things researched by him and the famous scenic
spot visited by him, the Note mainly recorded various things such
as mountains & rives, cites, physiognomy, public feeling, custom,
folk relationship, frontier, etc. investigated by him on the way.
All through the ages, the people gave very high appraise to the Note
as the encyclopedically world-famous Travel Note. The Mr. Qian Qianyi,
who lived at the same epoch with Mr. Xu, called this Note as ¡°the
real letters, great letters, rare letters in the world¡±. Mr. Xi Youbo
compared the vigor of style in Note¡¯s writing with the Mr. Sima Qi
who is the father of Chinese historiography and Mr. Liu Zhongyan who
is one of eight famous men in Tang & Song Dynastic and presumed
the Note is ¡°The writing meaning was like to Zhihou (Mr. Shima), the
narrating was similar to Longmen (Mr. Liu) ¡±. Doctor Jose Li, British
current famous natural science historian, said:¡°His Travel Note is
read not like what written by scholar in the 17th century, but like
the records written by a field-work explorationist in the 20th Century.¡±
So the Travel Note is not only a pretty literature but also excellent
science works. |
